Breaking: EA Chicago closing doors? (Update)

Recommended Videos

Word from reliable industry sources are indicating to Destructoid that EA Chicago (the studio responsible for Def Jam Icons, Fight Night) are closing its doors. Said to be part of the “restructuring” that tore apart Mythic last month, over 150 employees wait in limbo today as word on whether they will be let go or transfered to another studio are discussed in meetings.

Kotaku is reporting similar news, and their source has told them that the forthcoming Def Jam Icon sequel has been canned, with the future of the previously announced Marvel fighter up in the air.

No official word from Electronic Arts, so we’ll treat this as a rumor, but it’s coming from fairly reliable sources. We’ll keep you updated as more details come in.

[Update: I have no idea when Geoff Keighly started writing for Kotaku, but he’s confirmed the studio closure with Electronic Arts today. The confirmation includes a memo from EA Games president Frank Gibeau, who goes into further detail.]
