EA can’t wait to expand in Japan

Recommended Videos

Still trying to forget about its past fall from grace, EA is looking to further expand the reaches of its empire in Japan through a few well-placed acquisitions and partnerships of “mutual benefit.” You know, the typical stuff that all developers and publishers dream about at night.  This follows on the heels of their investments in China and Korea, which may have raised a few eyebrows. However, before lighting the torches and rounding up the Calvary for a good old fashioned gnashing of teeth and hatorade jam session, I invite you to ponder over what  EA Asia’s president Jon Niermann had to say during an interview with the Financial Times:

“I think EA offers a great global distribution opportunity in terms of taking Japanese products to other parts of the world and in turn there are certainly companies that are much better at local development than we’ve ramped up to be.”

Sounds like EA feels that there are going to be plenty of smiles to go around once the ball gets rolling — and why wouldn’t they think that? Japan likes to sell stuff to the rest of the world, who in turn, like to buy Japanese stuff. EA likes to buy developers and use their talents to sell stuff to the rest of the world. Sounds like a plan to me. Better watch out, Activision. EA is on the prowl.
