Don’t write off Dragon Quest Builders just yet

That first image of Dragon Quest Builders (PS3, PS4, PS Vita) didn’t do much for me.

“Huh? Dragon Quest through the lens of Minecraft? Uhh, okay.” *closes tab*

These latest screenshots are more substantial. The “Camp” bar in the HUD is intriguing, as is the thought of putting down spikes to keep slimes at bay. The small player-built town is cute. Actually, the more I think about what’s possible for this game, the more open-minded I become. This could be neat depending on what all there is to do in the world besides mining and monster battling.

As for a western release, we’ll see. Square Enix is using October’s Dragon Quest Heroes “as a kind of opening up of the market,” according to series executive producer Yuu Miyake. “We can gauge whether the American people might want to go back after Heroes and see some of the other Dragon Quest games. Hopefully we could use that as leverage to get those out over here.”
