Witcher 3 sold 4 million in two weeks

You go, girl!

Despite some hiccups with bugs and other nitpicks, The Witcher 3 has been a rousing success for developer CD Projekt Red. It has even, thus far, managed to largely avoid the several weeks later scathing takes that often pour in after the initial, gushing reviews of blockbuster games. Remember when Dragon Age: Inqusition was a 9/10, 10/10 across the board followed by weeks of, “okay, well, in hindsight, maybe it’s not that good.”

CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński delivered a heartfelt letter to fans today, thanking everyone for adding to a total of 4 million sales in Witcher 3‘s first two weeks.

“Four million RPG fans spending their hard-earned money on our game is a sign that we did something right, and you can be sure that we’ll harness all that positive energy and make the upcoming expansions worthy of the grand adventure that you’re telling us Wild Hunt already is.”

For context, Skyrim moved 7 million in one week, but Witcher 2 only sold 1.7 million in its first year and the series’ total sales (including the first’s Enhanced Edition and the 360 port of Witcher 2) were at 6 million in late 2013. So it’s a big step up for the relatively small Polish developer.
