Way more practical than the Power Glove
Some smart people over at a company called Flint Rehabilitation Devices recognized the potential of videogames and developed the MusicGlove, which helps stroke victims recover the use of their hands by moving their fingers in rhythm to a game similar to Guitar Hero.
Apparently, patients using the MusicGlove made many more significant improvements than those performing conventional exercises. It makes sense; playing a videogame can help patients stay focused on otherwise boring and repetitive exercises, and keep them coming back for more in the hopes of getting better at the game and beating their previous scores, all the while rehabilitating their hands.
It makes me happy to see stuff like this. Videogames can be used for so many different things. Aside from simply being entertaining, they can be used for education, competition, artistic appreciation, and even health improvement. I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing many more mainstream uses for videogames in the future.
