That’s a slick-looking NES visual compendium

On Kickstarter now, shipping in January 2017

A visual compendium for the Nintendo Entertainment System is something I’d happily leaf through and that concept has successfully taken to Kickstarter. A day into its month-long crowdfunding campaign, Bitmap Books has met its funding goal for an NES and Famicom coffee table book.

The 242-page book (longer, depending on how stretch goals pan out) will cover the systems and their peripherals plus 100 individual games, level maps, box art highlights, five developer profiles, fan art, and mini-articles on topics like unreleased and homebrew projects.

Bitmap has done this type of project before with a few other gaming consoles. “Typically, the visuals are the hero with small soundbites of text accompanying each game. This may be a quote from the games original developer/artist, a review from a well know journalist or even a fan taking about his/her memories. Within each book is also a series of larger text heavy features on subjects such a key software house or developer/artist interviews.”

So, if this is your sorta thing generally and you like Nintendo’s 8-bit era, it should be another good one. The early-bird pledge options have dried up, but you can get a digital copy for $15, a softcover for $37, and a hardcover for $51. The binding is thread sewn, not glue, which is a nice bonus.

Now, a question (asking for a friend): Do you need to own a coffee table before you can buy a coffee table book, or is just being a coffee drinker sufficient? Please don’t report me to the book police.
