Anew: The Distant Light has an alien world I want to explore

Coming to PC and consoles

I’m going to have a heck of a time remembering its name, but Anew: The Distant Light is a curious one.

It’s a nonlinear action-exploration game from a pair of former BioWare and Volition developers set on an alien moon “twenty light years from Earth” that truly does look alien. The strange, slightly unnerving creatures designs remind me of something like, I don’t know, Vectorman? Yeah, that’s probably it. The landscapes, too, are harsh and eye-catching. They show especially well in screenshots.

This trailer is geared more toward the action of Anew than the exploration (does literally every living thing want you dead?), but there’s a hint of its more somber side at the end. They’re not calling it a metroidvania, though you will “seek out game-changing equipment, upgrades, vehicles, and companions to expand your options for combat and exploration.” One to watch.
