Here’s the rub on the Best Buy Meta Knight amiibo in-store situation

Expect it to launch Friday

Another week, another hunting day for amiibo collectors and parents everywhere. Friday, February 20 is when the Best Buy exclusive Meta Knight figure will launch across the US. So what can you expect when you go to the store in the morning? Something similar to the Lucario situation, based on early reports.

In other words, stores are expecting very little stock, somewhere in the neighborhood of five to ten units per store — that’s more than Shulk, about on par with Lucario, and fewer than Rosalina. This listing from a Chicago area Best Buy system [Thanks, Craig] for instance indicates that stores are getting anywhere from zero to twelve units.

But if you’re willing to call your local locations, they’ll usually just tell you how many they have on-hand. All of the stores in my area typically range from three to four, up to ten max. Readers are reporting that it’s roughly the same for them. Essentially, you’re looking at a “sell out” situation at opening this Friday at nearly every store in the country.

Make sure you know how many your store has before you go out in the freezing cold the night before or in the morning. Most Best Buy stores will do a “ticketing system” to prevent situations where there’s only three total, but there’s ten or more in line. But just in case you’ll want to get a heads-up, as another nearby store may have more.

Good luck on Friday!
