Lucky’s Tale shows us how third-person games work in VR

Look around walls, and at ceilings

Lucky’s Tale is the cute platformer included with every Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, and many people have scoffed at the idea of it being third-person game that requires VR, but this new gameplay trailer aims to address those feelings. As the camera is controlled mostly by the Rift’s head tracking you’ll see a few instances in the above trailer where players will have to lean in, turn their heads, or look towards the sky to have better viewpoints to play the game.

I, for one, am still not convinced. While moving your head to control the camera certainly makes for a more immersive experience, the thought of leaning in and turning my head seems like it could be tedious. Do neck movements add to the game, or is the feature tacked-on to justify it being on VR? We will be finding out soon enough when Lucky’s Tale launches alongside the Oculus Rift on March 28.
