Square Enix’s Life is Strange-inspired #EverydayHeroes campaign helps anti-bullying charity

Life is Strange, for the few problems it has, doesn’t shy away from dealing with some intensely personal and dark topics. Playing as a teenage girl in a residential school, one of those topics is, inevitably, bullying. Bullying is one of the biggest themes of every episode, with protagonist Max having to deal with both bullies and their victims at various points in the game.

Because of that, Square Enix is starting the #EverydayHeroes campaign. Inspired by the in-game Everyday Heroes competition, Twitter users are being urged to share their own experiences about how they “overcame adversity, stood up for what’s right, or helped a friend in need.”

Every post made on social media (mostly Twitter, but presumably Facebook, Instagram, and others too) made using the hashtag before January 19 will increase Square Enix’s donation to PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, an American charity that tries to educate children and teachers about the damage bullying does, how to prevent it, and provide support for those who are the victims. Pretty worthwhile cause for a tweet, if you ask me.

It’s also interesting that Square Enix is organising a major social media campaign around Life is Strange, a fairly niche series that finished a few months ago. The game is obviously still at the forefront of the publisher’s mind, which is hopefully a good sign that it’s done pretty well.

You can find out about the #EverydayHeroes campaign on the Square Enix website, or watch the trailer up top. Be warned tough, the trailer has fairly important spoilers for most episodes of the game.

It’s always nice to see gaming try and do some real good!
