The Oculus Rift’s Touch controllers need more time

Now targeting the second half of 2016

The Oculus Rift’s Touch controllers already weren’t going to make it in time for the virtual reality headset’s launch, but now they’re even further off. Oculus VR expects to ship Touch in “the second half of 2016,” noting that the final product will be “more comfortable, reliable, and natural.”

The Oculus Rift is still on for Q1 2016 and includes an Xbox One gamepad. We don’t know how much it’ll cost yet, but the company expects pre-orders for the device to open “very soon.”

My only exposure to the Touch controllers was in a “play room”-esque tech demonstration — not something as fully realized as the Surgeon Simulator demo Zack tried — but the experience was invigorating. It didn’t take long at all before they felt, rather uncannily, like an extension of my hands and each individual finger. If I end up going the Rift route (I’m undecided until we know the price point for it and PlayStation VR), I’ll spring for Touch. No question about it.
