Rock it like it’s 1986: Araknoid DS comes with new paddle controller

Forget your wacky ‘wiggle wands’ and stupid ‘several-axis’ setups – who needs that crap when you can have an old-fashioned gaming paddle? Right? Who needs all of those other directions when you can just spin the paddle left and right. Why, back in my day I…

Taito brings back the block-busting action of the classic Arkanoid. For the younger gamers out there, this game was not much more than an on-screen version of racketball, played by moving a bar left and right to deflect a bouncing ball. Sounds fun, right?

Well, this upcoming Nintendo DS version actually does look to be fun. Japanese gaming site Famitsu posted new screenshots from Arkanoid DS, and they also include a picture of the optional paddle controller (shown above) that connects to the GameBoy Advance slot of the DS. Cheap gamers can use the touch screen and stylus instead.

The title looks to be moving into puzzle game territory with unlockable levels and screens, a multi-level Quest Game mode, and a 140-round Clear Game mode.

Arkanoid DS releases in Japan this December for ¥5040 (about $42 USD) with the paddle controller or ¥3990 without. Let’s hope that we hear something about releases outside of Japan soon.
