Crytek CEO: ‘Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3’

If there’s one game that would make the average non-PC gamer upgrade their six-year-old Dell, it’s Crytek’s upcoming first-person shooter drool-a-thon, Crysis. The Electronic Arts published title has turned heads for its stunning visuals and unique gameplay mechanics, yet has only been announced for PC.

Rumors cropped up that the game was in the works for consoles (specifically PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), but were ultimately squashed, the reason often cited that it wouldn’t be possible due to technical limitations. But realistically, Crytek’s CEO Cevat Yerli is now saying that “anything could run anywhere.”

In a recent issue of the UK’s PC Gamer, Yerli told the magazine that “Cryisis could be on the 360 or PS3,” but that it would just require proper optimization. Shipping a console version day and date alongside the PC monster is simply out of the question, he continued.

He’s also quick to point out that there are currently no plans to bring  Crysis to the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3. But let’s be real — with Electronic Arts handling the publishing duties, who would really be surprised if a mobile phone version of this game cropped up?
