Thanks Obama: U.S. President mentions The Witcher in visit to Poland

Admits he is ‘not very good at videogames’

Public relations in the videogame industry can be grueling. There are hundreds of contacts to keep, thousands of emails to send, and even after all of that, there is no guarantee that an outlet will pick up the story. So much work can go in with so little return. Or, if you are CD Projekt RED, you could just make a game that makes your country proud and is gifted to the President of the United States. Bam. Free PR.

Though his trip to Poland is focused on slightly more important things like the situation in Ukraine, economic partnership, and global climate change, President Obama spent a few sentences of his speech relating The Witcher to Poland’s work ethic and skill set. Obama remarked, “In fact, the last time I was here, Donald [Tusk] gave me a gift — the videogame developed here in Poland that’s won fans the world over, “The Witcher.”  I confess, I’m not very good at videogames, but I’ve been told that it is a great example of Poland’s place in the new global economy and it’s a tribute to the talents and the work ethic of the Polish people, as well as the wise stewardship of Polish leaders, like Prime Minister Tusk.”

The full text of the speech can be found at the White House website. Global politics and videogames! Proceed to the comments to yell about something unrelated.
