Fossil Echo flattens Shadow of the Colossus down to 2D

Minus the colossi

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the greatest games of all time, so citing it as a major influence brings a double meaning to “standing on the shoulders of giants.” Adding Oddworld as another influence makes me very interested in Fossil Echo, despite what little we know about it thus far.

Fossil Echo stars an Ico lookalike on his journey to climb a tower in the middle of the ocean. Details past that are shrouded in mystery; the narrative will reveal who the boy is and why he wants to climb the tower. Though vagueness can often be a turnoff, the beautiful artwork across varied environments have me intrigued enough to find out. Also, music by John Robert Matz (Gunpoint) certainly helps.

Fossil Echo is set to release on Linux, Mac, and PC in either late 2014 or early 2015.
