And other fun core gamer stats from 2014

NPD’s Core Gaming 2014 report shows that gamers still dig physical copies, with 74 percent of gamers in the United States saying that they would choose a physical copy of a game over a digital one. Digital acceptance is growing (it’s up 5 percent over last year), but physical is still wanted here.

United States’ 34 million core gamers spend 22.1 hours weekly playing games, the report says. A good deal of these folks also play smartphone games.

I was pleased to see my fellow portable gamers charting on the 2014 report. Of the core gamers, 11 percent of us are putting in 4 hours a week playing portable system games. These figures are separate from the phone/mobile/tablet ones.
