Mario Paint’s fly-swatting mini-game lives on

In Super Mario Maker, of course

One week from today, I’ll get to relive Gnat Attack. The chaotic fly-swatting mini-game from Mario Paint lives on in Super Mario Maker, and I can’t express how happy that makes me.

It’s not too surprising that this and other nods are featured in the level-making game. Last year, producer Takashi Tezuka told Nintendo World Report that prior to Mario Maker, Nintendo explored creating a new Mario Paint for Wii U. (It would’ve been a perfect fit for the GamePad.)

If you’re curious how the mini-game looks and sounds, watch this video. Otherwise, wait until Friday.

Decades later, those projectile-launching dragonflies still freak me out.
