This crash-course video explores the origin of Paradox and beyond

Expect to see more historical strategy games

I don’t have it in me to become invested enough in grand strategy titles to enjoy playing them, but I always had a soft spot for Fraser Brown’s Paradox reviews. This is a genre made possible by a passionate player base and the same can be said of the developers working on these games.

If you’ve ever wondered who, exactly, is making this stuff at Paradox Development Studio, the short documentary video above has your back, from the early days of Europa Universalis to Crusader Kings and beyond with the studio’s first role-playing game, Runemaster.

Studio manager Johan Andersson says he doesn’t think they’ll make a fishing simulator, but there’s potential for, say, “space games” as long as they are fun, immersive, and “thinking games.” I want to see what a Paradox-developed fishing sim would look like, though. A lot.
