PAX 2007: Virtua Fighter 5 Arcade in US confirmed

Recommended Videos

Remember when we told you that we heard that Japanese-style Virtua Fighter 5 arcade cabinets were on their way to the United States? We can now confirm that.

What? How do we know? We played it! Yours truly took on varied attendess, challengers, and inebriated members of the Destructoid Army on the above pictured cabinet at ArenaNet’s Guild Wars: Eye of the North party here at Penny Arcade Expo 2007. I’m glad to say that I kicked everyone’s ass… well, except for AngelsDon’tBurn – the guy’s a cheater!

Virtua Fighter 5 was placed back in a corner on the second floor of the Seattle GameWorks. Two sit-down units were placed back-to-back, just like in Japanese arcades. Each had high-definition, widescreen displays, squatty ball joysticks (perfect for the underhand grip), and wonderful buttons – these were an absolute joy to play. Sega, more please!

Let’s hope that we continue to see sit down-style cabinets come to the U.S.
