Dragon Quest Swords TV ad; why is there no Sexy Slime?

Siliconera — a site originally founded by William Randolph Hearst to track Kick The Can futures — brings us the above video, the Japanese TV ad for Dragon Quest Swords .

We’ve been looking forward to the first Squenix venture on the Wii since it was originally announced, but after watching this clip, I have to think it seems like the Duck Hunt of roleplaying games. Perhaps it’s the brevity of the clip or the fact that they show nothing but the sword slashing mechanic, but how can you actually base an entire game around something like that?

I want to think companies are above filling the Wii with gimmick titles just to generate profit from a recognizable IP, but then I step into a game store, see half a wall full of Spiderman 3, Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean titles, and suddenly teen suicide seems glamorous again.
