NASCAR 2008 attempts to show us the music

If you are a fan of NASCAR, or aren’t afraid to admit that you are anxious to start racing in circles with the sole purpose of acquiring the coveted Nextel cup via your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PlayStation 2 — then you most likely already know that the latest iteration of the EA racing game will be in its multiplatform release in just a few days. However, what you may not have known is what the complete 12-track song list for NASCAR 2008 has finally been released to the public. Hold that thought for a moment, as we’ll get back to that shortly.

For the sake of those who may not know, this marks NASCAR’s next-gen debut, and EA hopes to make the transition worth the wait. Featuring the debut of the Car of Tomorrow, enhanced visuals, a new vehicle telemetry visor, advanced car tuning, an all new career mode, challenging mini-games, and an expanded online play mode — EA hopes to tap into the 75 million-strong fan base that NASCAR has come to enjoy.

Now if you’ll kindly hit the jump, you will find that music Dale is referring to.

  • Airbourne – Stand Up for Rock ‘n Roll
  • Jason Aldean – Johnny Cash
  • Big & Rich – Loud
  • Big & Rich – Radio
  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Need Some Air
  • Blackberry Smoke – Up in Smoke
  • Brooks & Dunn – Long Haul
  • Bucky Covington – Empty Handed
  • Crossin Dixon – Stomp
  • Halfway to Hazard – Country ’til the Day We Die
  • Palmerston – Addicted to This
  • Velvet Revolver – She Builds Quick Machines

I’m not so sure I agree with EA’s Executive of Worldwide Music and Marketing, Steve Schnur’s next quote, but to each his own, I guess.

“Today’s NASCAR has 75 million of the most brand-loyal fans in all of sports, and any music mix must be a real reflection of true NASCAR culture. It’s more than country. It’s bigger than rock. This soundtrack is 100% cars ‘n’ guitars adrenaline that will blow gamers’ doors off.”

Although I would prefer to see a larger selection of music with a hard-driving beat, this is NASCAR — and not some Need For Speed: Underground game. As the sole NASCAR fan on staff (and perhaps this site), I felt it to be my solemn duty to not let this slip by unnoticed. Don’t complain too much, as I’m also a wrestling fan. You guys got off easy this time. If you feel the need, you can view a few more trailers of the game here. Get ready to drop Forza for a while, and learn to drive with the big boys.
