Sup Holmes veers into danger with Paul Veer

Get to know the people that make great videogames

Recommended Videos

Today on Sup Holmes we welcome young buck art stud Paul Veer to the program. You may not know Paul’s name, but if you are among the millions that have played The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire or Super Crate Box, or are one the elite who have already declared Luftrausers to be their game of the year for 2013, then you know his work very well. His frequent collaborations with Vlambeer, his work for LA Game Space, and gallery work have made quite a splash over the past few years.

While low-res sprite art is often seen as “retro”, or worse, the last resort for a game designer who isn’t capable of doing better, Paul’s continued employment and positive fan reception prove that you can still make it in this industry as a “dot artist”. We’ll be talking to Paul about how he got started in the industry, his influences, the strengths and weaknesses of the medium, how to be a champion. We’re also bound to talk about Pokemon X/Y. Paul likes the way the game looks, where I’m pretty darn sad that it doesn’t look more like, well, a Paul Veer game.

Join us at 1pm PST/4pm EST for the whole kit and caboodle.
