EA’s Online Passes free on Xbox Live

All previous passes becoming free

[Update: EA has commented about the price, indicating that all previous Online Passes will become free on both XBLA and PSN “over the next several weeks.”]

It seems that EA wasn’t just thinking about the Xbox One when it mentioned dropping the ever-so-popular Online Pass system that punishes consumers for purchasing a game used by adding an extra fee. On Xbox Live (sorry PS3 owners!) many of the Online Passes have been made completely free, as this NeoGAF thread details.

How long they’ll remain free is currently unknown. Maybe this is a goof on their part, or maybe EA is shifting all of their focus and servers to the Xbox One, meaning that these games may not even have an online mode for much longer. Regardless, if you own or plan to own any of these games used, now might be a good time to snatch up this oh-so-generous deal.

How nice of you, EA.
