Sony announces the end of the PSP era

Production ends this month on PSPs in Japan

It had a good run (in terms of my personal enjoyment, at least), but the end of the PSP is nigh. Sony has announced that later this month in Japan, PSP shipments will cease. US gamers are already used to this, since shipments stopped back at the start of this year. EU folks are in luck though, as Sony is going to continue to ship them until later this year.

It’s been almost ten years since the launch of the PSP in Japan, and it will be missed. Although it didn’t really find its footing outside of the typical Monster Hunter explosion, it featured a ton of niche games that I really came to know and love, like the ill-fated Mega Man Powered Up.

I’ll miss it, and I hope my model holds out for a long while.
