Games on Kickstarter have received $100M in pledges

What have you backed?

It feels as if Kickstarter hasn’t been around that long, though it’s been more than a few years at this point. In many ways, crowdfunding is still this new, exciting and, at times, scary thing. To date, more than $100 million has been pledged to game projects on the site. There’s likely plenty more where that came from.

Looking back at the pledge numbers is staggering: 2011 ($3,855,692), 2012 ($83,144,565), and 2013 ($22,423,264). It’s gotten to the point where veteran game designers are able to quickly pull in millions of dollars and, better yet, lesser-known teams can put out great games that you may have played without realizing they were even Kickstarted in the first place. Kentucky Route Zero? I had no idea. Never could I have predicted how influential gaming would become on the site.
