Crowdfunded action-RPG Path of Exile is about to finish up its closed beta phase. Come January 23, it will be in open beta. On top of this, the third act of the game will also be unveiled, and will see players explore the docks, markets, sewers and other abandoned places in the city of Sarn.

The free-to-play title boasts “ethical microtransactions,” a gigantic and flexible skill tree, and one of those dark and gritty worlds that people seem to lap up these days.

I must confess to being rather impressed with the huge scope of the skill tree — one could easily lose themselves in it for quite some time. I’m always up for another action-RPG, so I’ll no doubt be taking a peek myself, later this month.
