IGN sat down with Far Cry 3’s executive producer Dan Hay to talk about the creation of one of the best characters of 2012, Vaas Montenegro. Originally, Vaas was a big bald dude named Bull. He essentially looked like a generic mini-boss you’d see in most games and Ubisoft almost went with this character. That was until the actor Michael Mando came into the picture.

Ubisoft was blown away by Michael, and they would go on to change the character but it still wasn’t quite Vaas yet. They created Pyro, who resembles Vaas except the skin on his left side was full of burn scars.

From there they finally settled on how we all experienced Vaas in Far Cry 3. Check out the full IGN interview to see some more concept art, and what made Ubisoft so impressed by Michael that they completely re-worked the character.
