Drunken Robot Pornography to reach full release next week

Still the best title for a videogame in a long time

Part of the appeal of buying a game that’s still in development is seeing how much it changes before its full release. Drunken Robot Pornography is graduating to a full release on February 19, after a big chunk of time spent on Steam’s Early Access program, and it’s evolved from a fairly simple-looking game into a crazy, over-the-top spectacle with robot dinosaurs. Yes, robot dinosaurs.

If you haven’t played DRP, then it’s a mix between first-person shooter and a boss battle from a shmup. You control Reuben Matsumoto, who has accidentally helps his robot bartender Tim gain sentience and now must defend the city of Boston from Tim and his hordes of giant titan mechs. Each level has a large boss in the middle of an arena and you’ll have to use the platforms and weapons you find to your advantage.

When I first played DRP in early-2013, it was a pretty basic game but now it looks a lot more varied in level design and some of the titan designs on Steam Workshop are amazing (did I mention robot dinosaurs?). I think I’m keen to see more games do a full launch after a period on Early Access because it means that gamers who are rightly wary about purchasing “unfinished games” would be more inclined to actually take the plunge.
