Wii U expected to sell 25 million units over lifetime

That’s more than the GameCube

DFC Intelligence, a video game research and consulting firm, told GamesIndustry International that they expect the Wii U to sell 25 million units over its lifetime. That’s a quarter of the total sales of the Wii, and it’s only slightly higher than the sales of the GameCube. This is a lower number than the firm first expected.

Despite the lowered expectations, analyst David Cole is hopeful for Nintendo’s future, saying “I think Nintendo is carving out a different audience. I think that being said it is the right strategy. The audience they are going after is not the ones that Sony and Microsoft are going after. Right now they need to go after Nintendo fans first. They should have done that last year but better late than never.”

Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Super Mario 3D World, and Mario Party: Island Tour today, which is a brave move against the launch of the Xbox One. It’s good that Nintendo has a solid lineup for the Holidays this year.
