Scammers attempting to crack Guild Wars 2 accounts

ArenaNet warns users to create unique passwords

ArenaNet has revealed that scammers have a list of usernames and passwords from other websites, and are systematically trying them all on Guild Wars 2. Ah, the fun world of MMOs.

The developer puts the responsibility on the players, placing the blame on single passwords used across multiple online identities. The advice, of course, is to have a unique password for Guild Wars 2 — advice everybody already knows, but so few actually follow.

“If your current password isn’t unique to Guild Wars 2, change it today,” warned the studio. “Do not under any circumstances use the same password for Guild Wars 2 as you do for your email account.”

According to ArenaNet, “hundreds of thousands” of attempts have been made against accounts that don’t even exist on GW2‘s servers as the baddies attempt to find something that works. So yeah, look out for your security, folks!
