Tomorrow’s episode of the long-running, award-winning HBO sports program Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel features a segment with Soledad O’Brien going behind the scenes at the League of Legends World Championship.

This is more odd for me to see as a lifelong sports fan than as a lifelong videogame fan. Mainstream cultural acceptance has always made sense in my mind, but the whole “videogames are sport” is still weird to me.

Of course, as the clip from the segment emphasizes, I’m increasingly in the minority. “Whether video gaming, or eSports, is the anti-sport or the sport of the next generation,” reads the segment description, “it’s big business, currently grossing more than $60 billion a year.”
