LostWinds gets iOS update, soundtrack available on iTunes

I was pretty blown away when the original LostWinds landed on WiiWare back in 2008. With a wonderful presentation, brilliant controls and an enchanting soundtrack it was the complete package. The real surprise was the fact that Frontier managed to squeeze such a high quality title on to Nintendo’s digital download service, while so many of the Wii’s early on disc offerings looked like the aborted remains of N64 titles.

Now both LostWinds and its sequel Winter of the Melodias have made their way from WiiWare to iOS, with the later recently receiving a myriad of updates that probably put the Wii original to shame. Aside from a few minor bug fixes, the big news is that the radiosity graphical effect previously only available for that newfangled iPad is now available for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

The soundtrack for both titles has also been released as The Lost Winds Soundtrack EP on iTunes for about six bucks. Having fond memories of the Frontier’s score, I picked up the EP and wasn’t disappointed. It’s a wonderful collection of instrumentals with Eastern and Celtic influences that’s perfect for relaxation or just a nostalgia trip.
