Metal Gear Online shuts down today

Recommended Videos

Despite the fact that our time with MGO was extended beyond what was originally planned, nothing lasts forever, and the time has finally come for Konami to pull the plug. The game was admittedly one of the hardest online shooters to get into on the market, but once you got the hang of it, it was a great way to spend your afternoon — especially if you’re a Metal Gear fan.

Fans had been clamoring for a multiplayer Metal Gear game for years, and MGO pretty much delivered (and built upon the short-lived Subsistence online mode). As a frame of reference, servers will close down today at 23:59 JST (Japan Standard time). It is currently 22:00 JST at the time of this writing, so if you have off work/school today, pop it in for one last go!

As someone who owns every Metal Gear Solid game ever released in the states, I can’t help but shed a tear today, as our sweet prince heads towards his final slumber — I’ll have to wait until later today to pour some henny out for it.
