Traumatize a two-year-old in Among the Sleep

Recommended Videos

Many horror games have played with the idea of a helpless protagonist, heightening the tension for a player by reducing their combat abilities and forcing them to survive, rather than fight. Krillbite’s Among the Sleep takes that idea to its logical conclusion — casting you in the role of a toddler.

Among the Sleep is played from the perspective of a two-year-old child who will have to hide from nasties in a world far bigger than we adults have gotten used to. The teaser trailer showcases the concept, complete with sound and animation that really puts us behind the eyes of an infant. The effect, even in this short video, is nothing short of creepy.

This is a concept with some serious potential, and I’m pretty damn eager to see more. Subtlety is what will sell this idea, and from the small touches evidenced — short glimpses of tiny hands, the child’s breath in the background — it looks like Krillbite knows exactly what it’s doing.

Game’s due on PC and Mac next year. I love where this is headed.
