Sweet woodblock prints that feature VG stars as samurai

Jed Henry is just your typical web artist. He loves videogames and desires to express that love through his talents. So he does what any game-loving illustrator would naturally do: render his favorite heroes and heroines as old-school samurai in the style of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. That’s what all the cool kids are up to, right?

Joking aside, Jed’s works are astounding. He has only made three pieces so far — Samus, Mega Man, and Link — but he plans to keep the rhythm going week after week. Coming up is a Mario Kart number, followed by potential Castlevania and Contra pieces. He’s even considering adding poems to the prints and replace the English names plates with appropriate kanji!

It’s simply amazing how the characters are so wildly different from their original incarnations yet are instantly recognizable. You can even make out Metal Man, Shadow Man, and Quick Man from the Mega Man piece just from the symbols on their helmets. Brilliant!
