Kid Icarus soars with Mario in US March NPD data

Recommended Videos

Anyone who follows NPD data knows that Nintendo isn’t exactly big on giving up sales numbers (nor are the NPD actually, anymore). Thankfully, IGN was able to unearth a number of Nintendo’s hardware and software sales for the month of March. Hardware wise, the 3DS pushed 225,000 units (nice!), and the Wii sold 175,000 systems.

In terms of software, Mario Party 9 sold over 230,000 copies (wow!), Kid Icarus: Uprising sold about 135,000 copies during the week in March that it was out, Mario Kart 7 sold 118,000 copies, and Super Mario 3D Land pushed 100,000 units. All in all, that’s not a bad month at all for a bunch of games that are on their 7th and 9th iteration.

High sales numbers for Kid Icarus may bode well for a sequel (Wii-U please) — when I’m not fighting the controls, that game is one of the most charming Nintendo titles in years. The overall top ten itself is just about what you’d expect (Mass Effect 3 is #1), except for the oddly placed Operation Raccoon City at #2, despite being one of the buggiest games I’ve played in years — maybe people are just hungry for a new SOCOM game.
