Former Sony Computer Entertainment boss Ken Kutaragi has joined Marvelous AQL as an external director, according to a Nikkei report. Known as “The Father of PlayStation,” Kutaragi was a driving force behind the creation of the PlayStation brand, and later oversaw the development of the PlayStation 2 and PS3.

Kutaragi retired from his post as SCE chief executive officer 2007 but stayed on with the company as an honorary chairman before passing the baton to Kaz Hirai in 2011.

Marvelous AQL hopes Kutaragi’s knowledge of the industry will accelerate the growth of their business both in Japan and overseas. Marvelous subsidiary XSEED recently acquired Atlus Online from Index Digital Media, rebranding of the group as Marvelous USA.
