Prince of Persia Wii confirmed as port

God damn it. You game developers just don’t get it, do you? Ports will not get you anywhere with the Wii. This has already been established. Wii ports suck, and there’s not much you can do about it. Comparisons (graphical and otherwise) will always be drawn between the Wii version and the 360/PS3 version. The only thing worse than a Wii port of a “next-gen” game is a Wii port of a “last gen” game. And sadly, the Prince of Persia title scheduled to release for the Wii in March is just that. A port of The Two Thrones. Here’s the post on niwifi that confirms it:

I don’t know if I’ve gotten my next Nintendo Power issue before everyone else, but it is LOADED with great news! NP has an exclusive on the new Prince of Persia game coming to Wii. Apparently it is a rework of The Two Thrones which was released last year. I’ve never played this one in the series, but I’ve only heard good things. The article shows how exactly the game will be controlled with the wiimote/nunchuk combination. Here are the moves it goes over:

  • Dagger Plant
  • Speed Kill
  • Free-Form Fighting
  • The Daggertail

I won’t spoil how exactly they use the Wii’s controls, but it looks great! Suffice it to say, Prince of Persia on Wii is shaping up to be another must-have title in Wii’s ever-expanding library of AAA games.

Must-have my foot. I hate to be a pessimist, and I admit, I haven’t seen this issue of Nintendo Power, but the game sounds like a lazy port to me. Get with the program, Ubisoft. Laziness and ports and tacked-on controls aren’t the key to exploiting the Wii’s potential. Can we please see something more original?
