Mortal Shell 2 is not an easy game to complete, but there are two different difficulty modifiers available: Night Mode and Easy Mode. These are not available from the start of the game, however.

You can activate them pretty early to alter the default gameplay experience. In this guide, I will explain how each mode works and what you need to do to activate them.

How to activate the Night Mode in Mortal Shell 2

To activate the Night Mode, you will need to find the Gloombound Flame item. Once you have gained access to Fainweald, go to the Widow’s Overlook Beacon. Go down the slope that leads to a muddy section with different gravestones, and you will run into the Great Arbiter of Flesh mini-boss.

This foe is not too difficult to take down once you pass the initial stage and have upgraded your weapons and builds. The Gloombound Flame can be seen as a glowing item next to him. It is not necessary for you to take down the Great Arbiter of Flesh, although doing so will get you extra rewards and make the task easier.

Once you have found the item, return to the top of Marrow Keep and check the brazier that you’ll find there. Light it using the Gloombound Flame. An NPC named Thestus appears, and he asks if you would like to activate Night Mode.

This mode will darken your surroundings and make enemies tougher to take down. However, you’ll also get more rewards when you kill enemies, essentially making it a harder challenge if you’re up for it.

How to activate the Easy Mode in Mortal Shell 2

If you’re standing in front of the fast travel beacon at Marrow Keep like in the image below, take the door on your left. Continue heading straight to the outskirts, and you’ll find the Slayer Seal.

To enable Easy Mode, you’ll need to equip this Seal from your inventory. This will unlock the Easy Mode that allows you to recover some health upon successful ripostes. Your sidearms will also have boosted damage, and you will become invulnerable for a brief period.

However, this mode will automatically deactivate any achievement for your save, so use it with caution and only as a last resort.
