The PS3 exclusive you’ve never heard of: WarDevil

Ignition Entertainment, Ltd has revealed that its title, WarDevil: Enigma, will be exclusive to the Sony PlayStation 3.

Hidden within a press release that announced UTV Software Communication’s acquisition of a controlling stake of Ignition, WarDevil creative director Andy Whitehurst seems totally stoked to be working with the PlayStation 3:

“The project is being developed exclusively for the Sony Playstation3(tm) and we’re excited to be associated with Sony’s next generation system. WarDevil is designed to leverage not only the videogames properties of the system, but also the Blu-Ray and media rich functions of the PS3 – presenting a unique combination of both Videogame & Motion Picture into a single, unique product, which gives cinematic High Definition content (1080P) in real-time on the PS3.”

UTV is a premiere media and entertainment company (one that this silly American has never heard of) and Ignition Entertainment, Ltd. is a UK development studio (that I’ve never heard of prior to the WarDevil project). So should PS3 owners and Sony fan boys care? The screens look pretty slick, but until I see someone playing the game with a Sixaxis, I’m going to withhold judgement.

With talk of how difficult and expensive it is to create games for the PlayStation 3, it seems odd that an unknown entity would find its way to the platform exclusively (particularly at the hands of relatively unknown developers). But maybe, just maybe, the PS3 is the new Unicron, and is as powerful and capable as Sony would like everyone to believe.
