PlayStation Network maintenance delays US PSN update

Sony needs to get their act together

Recommended Videos

Since Sony doesn’t have a set time when they update the PlayStation Network — a stark contrast to pretty much all of their competitors — a lot of us were anxiously waiting for them to eventually update the PSN, and get our hands on the juicy Soul Sacrifice demo.

We waited. And waited. It was almost midnight, Eastern time, and we still had heard nothing. That is, until Sony finally decided to share that it wouldn’t be making their PSN update yesterday due to “ongoing PSN maintenance.”

For every positive thing Sony does on paper, they have another puzzling misstep. Why is the PSN updated “whenever Sony feels like it” on a weekly basis? Why can’t most PSN codes for press be redeemed before the day of a game’s release, when Microsoft and Nintendo have their systems setup to download items weeks in advance?

Why did Sony change their store layout from something that actually works, to a slow, muddled, sluggish design that needs to be micro-updated every week in addition to a regularly scheduled firmware update? These are all questions I hope are answered with the PS4.

Sony is making a lot of strides with indies and PS+, but they really need to get their act together with the PSN.
