Makers of Oniken channel classic Castlevania with Odallus

First look at the sidescrolling action-adventure game

It’s pleasant to report that Oniken developer JoyMasher will continue on the same old-school path with its next project, an exploration-action game called Odallus: The Dark Call. As you’ll see in this early snippet of gameplay footage, the game looks like it was made by people who were (and still are) super into Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Castlevania.

JoyMasher also explicitly cited Demon’s Crest as well, which is, just, yes. There’s a Dark Lord that needs to be stopped, and since these entities don’t tend to travel alone, there’s going to be plenty of bodies between him and protagonist Haggis. This time around, the team is going for a less “frenetic gameplay pace as in Oniken, but also don’t you think you will be hunting for butterflies in the game. This land is seriously wicked and there is no place for wussies.”

I am thoroughly on board with Odallus and can only hope we won’t have to wait too long to get our hands on the game. With such a recent reveal, however, I suspect we’ll need to remain patient.
