After selling five million copies of Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss could’ve washed its hands and fully moved on to its next project (the odd-looking creature-collector DokeV), but it appears that the open-world action game still has some juice left in it.

The South Korean studio confirmed today that development for “an upcoming DLC for Crimson Desert” is underway, and “the team is hard at work” on it. Further details weren’t shared, but the studio called it “a meaningful addition to the player’s journey.”

Crimson Desert has come this far thanks to the support and feedback you’ve shared with us since launch,” Pearl Abyss said in a statement. “We will continue moving forward to make every moment in Pywel special for all players, and we hope you are as excited as we are for the journey ahead.”

That journey ahead includes even more quality-of-life updates, of which there have already been quite a few since the game launched in March to some lukewarm reviews, ragging on several underlying issues. Many have since been tweaked, but there’s still more to come.

Updates rolling out from June to September include new “combat-focused content,” a rework for Re-Blockade, story improvements including “refining the coherence of key scenes to strengthen the narrative flow of Kliff’s journey and make it more engaging,” and gameplay improvements for Damiane and Oongka.

Cross-save is also in development, allowing players to link an account to share save files across PC, PlayStation, and XBOX, if they’re so inclined.

Crimson Desert kicked off its journey with review scores seemingly across the board, but Destructoid’s Andrej Barovic scored it at 8.5, saying that it “features a fantastic, content-rich open world where player freedom is the number one priority,” while also admitting that “a lack of polish breeds frustration.” That polish has been iterated on throughout the past few months, and the game is looking like an awards season contender because of it.
