Nintendo made mad bank on Black Friday, broke records

Here’s some broken records to let you know how well Nintendo did on this past Black Friday:

  • 3DS sales up 325% over Nov. 6
  • Half a million Wii systems sold on Black Friday, the most ever
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword the fastest-selling Zelda, sold 535,000 copies
  • Super Mario 3D Land the fastest-selling Mario portable, 500,000 sold since launch

I get the 3DS, as it’s a hot Christmas item, and Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land are both great games that should be under every tree, but it’s really surprising to hear that the Wii broke Nintendo’s one-day record this year. More than 500,000 in one day? Maybe it’s that new price point. Or the blue color. Or something I missed.

As for the 3DS, it’s already beating out the first-year Nintendo DS sales numbers, and in only 8 months. The holiday isn’t even over, and Mario Kart 7 is still coming this season.

Enjoy your money, Nintendo!
