How to use mounts in Highguard – List of mount types

Highguard is a unique PvP FPS in that it combines some interesting mechanics to create something that feels new, even in 2026.

One of the facets of Highguard that makes it feel different is mounts, which you can ride on to navigate the large outdoor areas of each of the game’s maps. And like other parts of the game, using them involves magic.

“All across Highguard lie mysterious glyphstrands bearing strange and wondrous properties when stimulated by sound,” the game’s description reads. “Many Wardens have learned to wield some of these lost frequencies, enabling them to summon forth echoes of creatures both past and present to ride across the rugged landscapes of Highguard.”

List of mount types in Highguard

At launch, there are four types of mounts in Highguard, with more due to come in post-launch content drops:

• Horse
  • Spirited plainsrunners bred for speed and power.
• Panther
  • Fierce big cats built for battle.
• Bear
  • Shaggy forest brutes of immense strength.
• Eldergryph
  • Elusive Landstrider gryphons of the high mountains.

Mounts vary in speed and HP depending on an item that you can find around the map.

Mounts in Highguard, explained

Mounts are a crucial part of any match in Highguard. Before raiding or even battling for the Shieldbreaker, you must mount up to traverse the massive maps to find loot to improve your chances of survival.

After selecting your loadout and reinforcing walls in your base, it’s time to mount up and head out. Keep in mind, however, that mounts are very loud and will alert the enemy to your position from much further distances than if you’re on foot.

You can fire your weapon while on the back of a mount, but aiming will be difficult. Mounts can also be destroyed by the enemy, which will dismount you immediately and send your mount into a cooldown so you can’t mount back up again immediately.

One of the loot items you can find in the open world or buy at the merchant is a Saddle. The higher the rarity of your Saddle, the more health and speed your mount gets, so it’s one of several items you’ll want to be on the lookout for while looting.

Mounts are not just for exploration, though. If you find yourself at a disadvantage in a gunfight, you might consider hopping on your mount to escape or even relocate to put yourself in a better location for the battle.

Either way, mastering mounts is important in your climb as a Highguard player, so make sure to practice and use them wisely.
