A Sony Computer Entertainment America engineer has confirmed the 20MB download cap on 3G versions of the PlayStation Vita. Already confirmed in Japan, it would seem North America Vitas will be subject to similar restrictions imposed by the 3G carrier — in this case, AT&T.
Sony’s Chris Norden did state that larger downloads could still be obtained via wi-fi, but this more or less eliminates the point of the 3G-enabled SKU. I already struggled to see a reason for the 3G variant’s existence, but this definitely seals the deal.
Since the cheaper and already more preferable wi-fi SKU exists, this isn’t so bad. Still, I don’t know how Sony can even begin to justify the 3G alternative. Seems like a total waste of time and money.
