Rumor: Sony planning to buy out Ericsson

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony is close to finalizing a deal that would buy Ericsson out of its half of the Sony Ericsson partnership and award the PlayStation platform holder full control. The news comes from a group of people “familiar” on the matter.

With total control, it’s said Sony will be able to intergrate smartphones with its other hardware dabblings, synchronizing development with tablets, computers and game consoles. It will also be able to bring its newly developed PlayStation Suite to quite a few more phones, really pushing the platform.

The deal’s allegedly on shaky ground and could fall apart at any moment, but it’ll be big news if it goes down. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
