Wii News Channel hits this Saturday

The Associated Press is reporting that Nintendo’s Wii News Channel will be up and running this Saturday, running all the hottest headlines and big news courtesy of — you betcha! — the AP. Marketing Veep Perrin Kaplan danced her Excitable Executive jig and mentioned the following:

News will be displayed through an interactive map, which users can navigate with the Wii’s wireless controller, Kaplan said.

“The beauty of it is it zooms in and out of areas of the world,” she said. “So if you really want to focus on regional news or national news versus international, you just blow up the map of the U.S.”

That’s really awesome, actually. For all the crappings-on that the Wii Weather Channel gets, I do love me some Globe action — I’ll spend more time looking at the weather conditions in the Congo and in the dankest pits of Cambodia than Bellingham, and that can be chalked up to the intuitive interface design. Get a little bit of that going on with the Wii News Channel and you have a recipe for success, at least as far as my little information-junkie heart is concerned.
