Minecraft dev to ‘fight Bethesda for as long as it takes’

Markus “Notch” Persson may have been more lighthearted when he challenged Bethesda to a game of Quake III, but the Minecraft developer has started to wear his serious face. He says he’s prepared to fight Bethesda for “as long as it takes” over the company’s “Scrollstrademark dispute.

“If it came to a Quake 3 tournament, I have a feeling we might just have to change the name,” he admitted to Wired. “In retrospect, it might have been the wrong choice.

“If we’re going to court, I will fight this for as long as it takes. It’s a bogus claim, and [Bethesda has] several one-word-named games that share a noun with other games that precede [them].”

Attorney/analyst Mark Methenitis has told Wired that he thinks Bethesda might have a case, but it all depends on how much consumers associated the word “Scrolls” with the Elder Scrolls series. Man, I love lawsuits that get in the way of developers being able to make games.
