Deluxe Pack ex odds – Why it’s impossible to get a Pokémon TCG Pocket Master Set

There's a new set in Pokémon TCG Pocket with a huge amount of cards, so let's explore what it takes to get them all.

We’re coming around to a whole year of the mobile title Pokémon TCG Pocket, and to mark this milestone, the developers unleashed a brand new set called the Deluxe Pack ex.

Changing up the formula, every booster pack contains four cards instead of the usual five, but guarantees at least one card of the ex rarity or above. Then, there are also foil versions of existing cards, a smattering of new rare cards, and a new immersive.

In total, this set contains 379 cards. This is enormous, and compounded by the fact that this set is time-gated, only available until Oct. 30. It makes it really tough on collectors, and fans have rightly been voicing their concerns about completing this set and the themed missions before the end of the month. So, we’re going over the odds of the cards in the Deluxe Pack ex set.

How many packs does it take to complete the Deluxe pack ex?

This lengthy Reddit post by user Dastenis goes over how many cards there are in the set, the number of packs free-to-play players get a month, the hourglasses they can earn in a month, and how this all comes together.

F2P players get two packs every day, and four hourglasses for completing daily tasks. As it takes 12 hourglasses to open a booster pack, this means an additional booster pack every three days. With 379 cards in the set, assuming you never pulled any duplicate cards, it would take 95 packs to complete the set.

Now, with only 30 days to open the Deluxe Pack ex set, the move to four cards in a pack instead of five, and with a maximum of 70 free packs within the timeframe, it’s impossible to complete this set in time without spending money. If players opened 70 packs in the month and never pulled a single duplicate, they’d own 280 cards of the 379-card set.

Finally, Pokémon TCG Pocket also clarified that while many of the cards in this set are visually identical to previous cards, they do not go towards the completion of previous sets, instead counting as a separate card in the newer set. So, fans hoping that completing this massive new set would also retroactively help previous sets are sadly mistaken.
